MTT and WeRoam are launching international WLAN roaming service to Russian subscribers22 January 2008
January 22, 2008 – Moscow, Russia and Bern, Switzerland. ÎJSC “Multiregional TransitTelecom” (ÌÒÒ), an international and domestic long-distance telecommunications operator in Russia, and WeRoam, a leading worldwide WLAN roaming provider, have entered into a cooperation to launch international WLAN roaming service to Russian service providers and their subscribers. At the first stage, after a successful period of service testing at the end of 2007, ÌÒÒ and WeRoam have implemented outbound roaming, to provide Russian Wi-Fi users with access to WeRoam’s aggregated global hotspot network. The world wide WeRoam footprint spans over 35’000 Wi-Fi hotspots from 54 network operators in 62 countries. To connect to a WeRoam partner network, Russian subscribers can use their existing login and password, received from their ‘home’ Wi-Fi service provider. It is expected that the number of Russian Wi-Fi operators to join this project will increase in 2008. «ÌÒÒ is performing a unique project for Russia, that opens new possibilities for Russian Wi-Fi operators in providing modern and hi-technology services for their subscribers,” – commented Igor Zabolotny, MTT acting General Director. “The number of Russian travelers visiting foreign countries is constantly growing. The company was set up in 1994 with a mission to establish co-operation between communication operators. MTT offers telecom services and provides efficient co-operation organization to more than 300 mobile operators and 100 PSTN operators in Russia as well as their co-operation with 50 foreign operators, signaling co-operation – with more than 300 operators. In 2005, the company obtained Rossvyaznadzor (the Federal Service for Communication Supervision) License No32042 for long-distance and international communication services to end-users in the entire Russia. The services are based on the nationwide multiservice network with its presence in every Russian region WeRoam is a trademark of Swiss company Comfone AG. Comfone
provides roaming services to over 300 operators in 125 countries
worldwide. Its services portfolio includes signalling, data,
clearing, hubbing and convergence services. WeRoam specialises in
wholesale mobility management and roaming solutions for the fixed
and mobile telecommunications sector. Its patented open roaming
platform connects to nearly 60 WISPs and offers an aggregated
footprint of more than 35.000 hotspots. Key solutions found in GSM
technology have been adopted to make up the WeRoam service. This
positions WeRoam as the only open roaming platform supporting
username/password and SIM based authentication for WLAN Roaming.
