In 2008, MTT implemented international WLAN roaming in Russia thanks to a cooperation agreement signed with the operator WeRoam. Also, the same year MTT signed a cooperation agreement with IDT, the largest multi-national telecom operator, which included a direct interconnection of the networks and cooperation in the field of international telecom services. The company also extended its international network to include neighbouring countries, namely Georgia (Telecom Georgia) and Belarus.

As usual, the company successfully cooperated with the governmental sector. Starting form 2008, MTT was awarded more than 100 open tenders for the provision of domestic and international long-distance services to governmental organisations. Also in 2008, MTT was the first in Russia to confirm the compliance with the Basic Level of Information Security. The company was certified by Autonomous Non-profit Organisation “Centre of Competence for Information and Telecommunication Networks”. In addition, MTT successfully confirmed its information security management system certification. An audit evidenced its progress in the implementation of the Information Security Management System and the efficiency of the audited processes. The audit was conducted by BSI Management Systems CIS. In 2007, the company ranked first in the Technologies and Telecommunications ratings of the magazine Trade Secret.

At the end of 2008, Victor Albertovich Bertyakov was appointed the company’s General Director.
